Puchon Choice Jury (Feature)

Yasuo Furuhata (The Chairman of Jury)

Born in Nagano 1934. He graduated from Tokyo University department of French literature. After graduation, began working for Toei as an assistant director, and made his debut as a director with <Yoko, A Juvenile Delinquent> in 1966. With his unique production technique, he has made several actors leap into big fame, especially like Ken Takakura, now one of the biggest actors in Japan, with the films like <Flower of Winter>, <Station>, <Choji of the Tevern>, <Yasha>, <Poppoya-Railroad Man>. In 2001, <Hotaru>was filmed in Andong's Hahye village.

Lloyd Kaufman

One of the most influential man in American low budget film making. He is also a graduate of Yale University. He made his debut as a director in 1969, and in 1974 with his college friend Michael Herz, founded the famous, Troma Productions. He works as a producer, actor, and scriptwriter. His most famous films are the <Toxic Avenger Series>, the first episode making its debut in 1985.

Mario Dorminsky

Mario Dorminsky was born in Porto, Portugal in 1955. Currently managing 'Cinema Novo', president of Portugal's 'Fantasporto' festivals, and works as the manager and editor for the film magazine, Estreia. Also wrote books on Zagreb animation school, films of Roger Corman, and history of cinema. Works diligently in Portugal for distribution of films, and is involved in process of financing films for production. He worked as a jury in many distinguished film festivals, including the Cannes film festival.

Majid Majidi

Born in Iran 1959. Started working in the film industry after the 1978 revolution. Filmed such short films as <Hudaj>(84), and <Examination Day>(1988). Also worked as an actor in the early eighties. His first feature film <Baduk>(92) was invited to the Cannes Film Festival Director's Week. In 1996 he gained spotlight when his film <The Father> won the Grand Prix at Pagers International Film Festival, and awards at San Sebastian Film Festival and San Paulo Film Festival. Won international acclaim with his film <The Children of Heaven>(1997), which landed him three awards from the Montreal Film Festival, and nomination at the Academy Awards. <The Color of Paradise> is his fourth work which was made in 1999.

CHOI Ji-hee

Born in Osaka Japan, 1940. She made her acting debut in director LEE Kang-cheon's <A Beautiful Wicked Woman>. Became famous in the sixties with her unpolished, yet glamorous style. After attending the New York Neighborhood Play House Total Art School in 1961, she returned to Korea. After retiring in 1973, she has continued to work as a producer. Her famous films are <Daughters of Kim's Pharmacy>, <Malttisinbu>, <8240 K.L.O>.

YIM Soon-rye (The Chairman of Jury)

YIM Soon-rye was born in Incheon in 1960. She majored in English at Hanyang University and finished her major in Drama and Film Studies at the Graduate School of Hanyang University. She received an MA from 8th University, in Paris. She worked on <Out to the World>(directed by YUO Gyun-dong), and directed a short film, <Promenade in the Rain>(the grand prize winner of the First Seoul Short Film Festival). In 1996, she directed her first feature film, <Three Friends>. She has released her second feature film, <Waikiki Brothers> in 2001.

LEE Sung-gang

Born in 1963. Graduate of Yonsei Univ. majored in Psychology. He's been working on art until he started making animations. He has completed <Small Moon> and <Two Rooms> in 1995 and <Lover> which was screened at Pusan International Film Festival back in 1996. <Soul> and <Umbrella> were shown at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival in 1997. He has made an animation short film the <Thieves>, which has been inserted in <Bad Film>(directed by JANG Seon-woo). In 1998 he directed <Ashes in the Thicket>.

LIM Chang-jae

Born in 1964. Graduate of Yonsei Univ. majored in Theology. Afterwards he studied at Film Chungang Graduate School. At present he is the member of the board of directors of Korea Independent Film Association. At the same time he is the chairman of Indie Forum Writers Meeting. He started his career as a film director by making <Org>, which is a black and white experimental movie made in 1994. He subsequently made <Over Me>(1996), <Larchrymal>(1998) and <Aqua Requiem>(1999). In 2000, he shot a digital experimental work <Mimi>, 16mm film <A Night Being Purged>. He released <X> in 2001. He directed a thriller drama <Unborn but Forgotten> in 2002.

YUN Ye-ryung

Graduated from Chungang University Dept. of Theatre and Film, studied at Chungang Graduate School Dept. of Performance & Visual Media. While working as an actress, she went to the States, finished Professional Makeup Course. In France completed Special Effects Make-Up Course. Afterwards studied under Gil Mosco, Dick Smith in Hollywood. She worked in various features among them, <The Legend of Gingko>, <Ghost in Love>, <Shiri>, <Spring in My Hometown>, <Attack the Gas Station>, <Ring>, etc. She has cut a conspicuous figures in this field as well as in media, plays, musicals, commercials.

MOON So-ri

Graduated from Sungkyunkwan University Department of Education in 1999. Her debut film was <Peppermint Candy>(1999), in which she played the role of YOON Soon-im. Worked in the theater group 'Hangang' in 95 and 97, jointly creating the feature, <Classroom Idea>. She is mainly participating in short films these days. Appearances in short films include; <Black Cut>, <Plan 19 from Outer Space>, and <Icecream>. The Film <Oasis>, she received Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Actress in Venice Film Festival in 2002.
